CHANEL No.5 Eau de Parfum

’ve been wary this month of recommending a particular perfume to give or to receive. Who am I to say what might appeal to you, your girlfriend or your granny? I find it hard enough to pick a new scent for myself, never mind for someone else. But Chanel No.5 isn’t a perfume, it’s THE perfume, created for Mademoiselle Chanel in 1921. It’s my firm belief that every woman should have a bottle of No.5 bought for her once in her life, whether it’s by a friend or a lover. This Christmas, Chanel are presenting it in a terribly smart ivory gift box, with red and gold detail, so it’s ready to go under the tree. In fact anything bought from a Chanel counter will be elegantly wrapped in a black and white box with a criss-cross of chicly logoed red ribbon, so if Gift Buyer’s Panic is setting in now there are only three sleeps left before Christmas, head for the big double Cs. Chanel is like Tiffany’s: nothing truly bad could ever happen to you there.
