The DJ and presenter of BBC’s Glastonbury coverage tells us which products make up her festival survival kit
I definitely take a bit more when I’m working on TV and radio than when I’m at a festival just hanging out. I just take a bar of Dove and a bit of dry shampoo in those situations! This year I start broadcasting on 6Music at 10am, then work through the afternoon and evening on TV, usually coming off air at 2am. It’s a bit of a marathon, so I make sure I take products that are going to make me look and feel a bit perkier.
My essentials:
1. Garnier Ambre Solaire Clear Protect Spray SPF50, £7.24
I’m definitely not complaining about too much sun at Glastonbury! But when you’re as pale as me you have to be protected, especially as I often have to stand out in the sun filming for far longer than I would usually (I have to seek shade after about 20 minutes or I fry!). For filming I always use stuff that sinks in straight away – faffing around with cream is not an option when you’ve got 30 seconds between links to slap it on. This one is ideal.
2. Bobbi Brown Long Wear Gel Eyeliner in Black Ink, £17.50
When everything else has fallen off your face at 3am, this will be left standing! My amazing makeup artist Liz Beckett layers on a bit of sparkle for telly as well. Her secret weapons are Collection 2000 Glam Crystals Eyeliners, which are £3 each!
3. Aerin Pretty Bronze Illuminating Powder, £34
This is a recent discovery that I now never want to be without. I’ve always shied away from bronzers before as I fear the Oompa-Loompa look, but this in the palest golden shade just makes me look better, rather than browner. So useful when you’re short on sleep.
4. Aveda Light Elements Smoothing Fluid, £21.50
Last time I was in getting my colour done, my stylist at The Aveda Institute showed me that a couple of squirts of this in damp hair makes it dry soft and frizz-free (so great in the rain). You can also use it to add a bit of shine and softness on dry hair. The tiniest amount makes a huge difference, so I’ll be decanting a little to take with me, along with travel-sized Shampure and conditioner.
5. Clinique Take The Day Off Make-up Remover For Lids Lashes and Lips, £16
This takes EVERYTHING off in seconds, which is just what you need after about 13 hours in telly slap that has been baked into your face by the sun and the studio lights!
6. Dove Beauty Cream Bar, £1.35 for two
I’ve tried hundreds of other cleansers, body washes and stuff, but when you want to feel really clean nothing beats lathering up with this (usually with my Clarisonic Mia, which I am addicted to). I love the old-school scent as well.
7. Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi Usage Dry Oil, £28
I’m a body oil addict – it’s so much quicker to use and more moisturising than creams. Nuxe multi-usage oil is a good one to take to a festival as you can use it head to toe – on hair, face, nails, body.
8. Vaseline Pocket Size tin, £1.99
Always handy for lips, grazes and anywhere that needs some moisture.
