The TV presenter and BBC R2 DJ spills her make-up bag to reveal some choice low maintenance staples
Sanctuary Skin Perfecting BB Cream SPF 15, £11.99
I can always just whack a smudge of this on and look instantly better. All my make-up needs to be easy to put on and quick. I’ve got children to nag and twitter to gawp at in the morning so beautification has to be speedy. It works equally well for the school run so I don’t scare motorists/other people’s kids. I mix it up with a bit of foundation for a bit more oomph in the evening.
NARS The Multiple in Malibu, £30
I’ve used these blushers for years and I’ve always got a spare rattling round my handbag. I love the fact it’s a big fat stick, I’ve got no time for fiddly brushes – I lose stuff too easily. It’s also easy to apply – you just dab on a disc of colour and rub it in. Do remember to blend though – I once almost presented a visualised Live Lounge looking like Aunt Sally. This colour is ace and leaves my cheeks with a “just skipped through a meadow” glow.
My lovely make up artist pal Rosie introduced me to the joys of this. It’s got a really subtle pink glow and moisturises your lips without stickiness. I hate the gunky feeling of most lipgloss – they’ve made me retch on shoots before. I started early with lipgloss and my 14-year-old self was told by my dad that I looked like I’d just eaten a greasy lamb chop.
Balance Me Cleanse & Smooth Face Balm, £20
I read in a good beauty column (ahem!) about face balms and I love this one. I’d never tried them before but they leave your skin feeling proper clean. Plus, unlike some face washes this balm doesn’t dry me out to the extent where I feel like I’ve just been dug up on Time Team.
Dead Sea Spa Magik Super Night Cream, £8.25
I slather this on and it’s gorgeous. Like a massive drink for my skin.
Anew Clinical PRO Line Corrector Hydrating Cream with A-F 33, £24
The name doesn’t mean much to me – the latter part sounds like a type of assault rifle. To be honest, I’m a bit of a tart with day moisturiser and will become terribly fond of one till another sexy tub or bottle catches my eye! However. I’ve had a lot of compliments since starting to use this. My skin seems plumper and smoother and fresh-looking. Maybe it’s my recent St Tropez spray tan, maybe it’s hormonal, the moon, better lighting or maybe, just maybe, it’s this weirdly named cream.
