Want to up your nail game? Natalie Kate Meehan names the must-follow Instagram accounts.
I take nails very seriously. As seriously as I take my hatred of people who walk slowly when I’m trying to get to Whistles on my lunch hour, or who faff about at cashpoints.
There are few greater pleasures in life than sitting on my sofa, with a lemonade ice lolly, watching Celebrity Masterchef and idly scrolling through Instagram looking for nail inspo. My follow list is absolutely heaving with accounts dedicated to nail art and polish brands – I rarely get through five photos without hitting a goldmine of nail pimpage.
So here are my top 5 nail accounts to follow if you, like me, aspire to greater heights of creativity and a next-level nail game.
LILY ALLEN: lilyallen
Say what you will about Ms. Allen but she undeniably knows her way around a nail concept.
Lily mixes it up several times a week, going bold and taking nail art to the extreme. From tiny $100 bill decals and mini gold chains to futuristic geometic neons, there’s not a design that Lily won’t try. Follow for nails with a sense of humour.
FLOSS GLOSS: flossgloss
Californian nail brand Floss Gloss are the self-appointed bad girls of the nail world. Their Instagram account is a maelstrom of emojis, rap lyrics, cuticle tattoos and exxxtreme hashtags.
Their vibe is bright, fruity and LOUD. Expect glitter. Expect tiny unicorns. Expect the unexpected. These girls are changing the way we see nail polish marketed, and I love it.
NAOMI YASUDA: naominailsnyc
NYC based nail artist to the stars Naomi Yasudu is absolutely KILLING IT. Who do you think Lily Allen entrusts with her fingertips when she’s in The States?
Naomi creates incredible art for high-end fashion campaigns, Instragramming from behind the scenes, and her work has even graced the nails of the #unapologeticbitch herself, Madonna. I bow down.
ELLIE HARRY: ellie_harry
Freelance designer and WAH Girl Ellie Harry is one of East London’s WAH Nails’ biggest stars. Her designs are incredibly intricate – Ellie’s skills with a fine-tipped nail brush are on point.
She often Instagrams her nail inspo, shares her creative processes and whets the appetite with innovative 3D designs that you won’t see anywhere else (until the Pinterest gang start attempting to recreate them).
She’s also got really great hair, so you should probably follow her right now.
DEBORAH LIPPMANN: deborahlippmann
Friend to the A-list and fancy manicurist Deborah also has her own line of luxe polishes, and posts a mix of backstage shots, sexy pics of her own products and up close mani-shots.
Her designs are clean, classy and often understated. She certainly knows a high-fashion nail. She also posts how-to videos, showing you exactly how you can replicate her art (with a steady hand and Deborah Lippmann polishes, of course) and expect to see cameos from a few celebs along the way. Want to know who did Lupita N’Yongo’s manicure for The Oscars? Deborah, of course.
So, go and add that little lot. And share your own must-follow Instagram nail-heads below. When it comes to drooling over nail art, there’s no such thing as enough.
