A bargain matte lipstick without the drag and dryness.
I love the way matte lips look but as I get older, I find them a little less forgiving. I crave a little softness against my skin, a reflection of light on my face. But matte lipstick is unarguably cool, so I’m always greedily looking for the best of both worlds. This new lipstick from Revlon offers just that. It claims to offer a suede effect finish but that doesn’t quite do it justice. Firstly, it’s super soft. It glides across the lips when most mattes drag. It leaves my lips moist, never parched, thanks to a comfy dose of shea butter and vitamin E. Despite this, the pigment is dense and rich, if not wholly opaque, and there’s a shade for everyone. I personally prefer the brights for summer because I’m never keen on matte nudes as they make me look a bit consumptive and sad (my trial of the Runway and Catwalk shades were not a success). Muse, a hot pink, and Designer, a cheering orangey-red are my favourites – both look fabulous with no eyeshadow, some black smudgy kohl or sharp wings and bright coral nails. They last brilliantly (about five hours) and helpfully, come in a thin bullet stick, making it a complete doss to apply neatly. Revlon have rarely put a foot wrong this past couple of years. With this, they have created what is basically a very pretty matte lipstick for women who think they can’t wear it.
