Urban Decay Anarchy

A gorgeous punk pink that looks bold and uncompromising, but feels comfy and soft

I love hot pink lipstick like I love false lashes and whoreish perfumes. Some days it’s just exactly what I feel like wearing and I care not for anyone else’s gauge of appropriateness. I’ve been devoted to Nars’s neon pink Schiap for a few years, and will always wear it. But Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Anarchy is my new jam. Barely off my face in weeks, it’s a vivid blue-based hot pink with a satin finish (Schiap is paler and matte) that feels lovely and creamy on the lips for hours. I’ve decided it’s called Anarchy because it’s the perfect punk pink – an identical shade to that used by Jamie Reid on the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind The Bollocks, and with the same attitude. People get panicky about bright hot pink, usually worrying that it won’t suit their colouring. To me, this sort of misses the whole point. Lurid hot pink doesn’t really suit anyone’s colouring and it doesn’t care either. Its agenda is to look a bit confident, sexy, cool and slightly bonkers. It’s what to apply on days when none of those qualities naturally exist. It demands to be noticed and admired. It warns everyone that today you will not be putting up with their bullshit. I wear Anarchy, as in this picture, with pink blusher (Nars’ Gaiety here), no shadow and tons of blackest mascara. I also use the matching 24/7 lip pencil (also in Anarchy) to get a nice neat shape, but the lipstick bullet’s sharp, thinner edge means it still works well without. This is not a lipstick for everyone, I’ll admit. But it’s my favourite of 2013 so far.
