World famous make-up artist Charlotte Tilbury gives Sali the Liz look.
I very rarely agree to have anyone do my make-up, but when Charlotte Tilbury, one of my all time favourite artists (and the facemaker behind Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Tom Ford Beauty campaigns, as well as countless Vogue covers), asked me if she could make me up as my ultimate beauty icon, Elizabeth Taylor, I immediately said, “Meh, some other time, darling”.
Obviously what actually happened was that I screamed, made gun fingers and said yes, then rang all my friends and quacked on about it until they felt sick to their very stomachs.
We booked in a shoot date to coincide with the launch party for salihughesbeauty.com at Space NK Westbourne Grove (I hate to see great make-up go to waste) and spent a completely delightful few hours in Charlotte’s studio in South London, getting ready a la Liz (you know I like a face full of product, but believe me when I say that by the end I was wearing All The Make-up). The tutorial, results and product details are all here on the video, but in case you can’t tell from my on-screen reaction, I absolutely loved the look, and adored Charlotte herself. The woman is a genius – truly inspiring, extremely creative and technically flawless, and a great laugh too (I cringe at the term girls’ girl so let’s just say she would never, ever sleep with your husband – you know what I mean). It was an absolute pleasure and an honour to be involved, and I can’t wait to return the favour. Look out for me interviewing Charlotte in her bathroom over the next couple of months.
