Tom Ford Neroli Portofino Shower Gel, 250ml, £42
I have a theory that a large part of Tom Ford’s unbridled success in fashion and latterly beauty is down to his name. Tom Ford. It is a very good name, isn’t it? The hard and soft letters are in just the right places. And there’s no alphabetical flab. Tom Ford. Seven letter chic. Tom Ford. You want to keep saying it. And so as much as I thoroughly enjoy Neroli Portofino’s shower gel incarnation for its fresh, citrusy, wake-you-up-without-slapping-you quality, I suspect a big part of the appeal is that the bold, upper case TOM FORD on the label itself just makes me feel a bit more sophisticated with every gloop of the gel. The bottle is actually quite unwieldy once the contents start to run down – it’s a small-apertured hard plastic that doesn’t lend itself to squeezy-ketchup palpating – but you’ll forgive it because it smells much, much better than your typical shower slop, and it’s by Tom Ford. Tom Ford. Tom Ford.
