Un Air De Diptyque electric diffuser, £240

What’s Christmas without evocative smells and spendy gadgets? Until someone invents a sprout-processing robot gran, Diptyque lead the way in combining the two. Signature scents, previously only available in your living room via candle or the wrist of a classy visitor, can now be electrically spritzed around the home by this smart diffuser. You can currently choose from five different fragrances, including Diptyque flagships Baies and Figuier. I gravitate to Feu de Bois, but then my scents of choice generally involve smelling like I’ve just rescued a unicorn from a cottage fire in the heart of an enchanted forest. The diffuser is undeniably spendy, but once you’ve made the investment, the £25 capsules compare favourably in price to their waxen counterparts, last for around 40 hours (in practice, twice that as the diffuser operates ten minutes on, ten minutes off) and won’t set fire to the Christmas tree.
