Ciate Mini Nail Lacquer Advent Calendar, £42.50
There’s something a bit mise en abyme about writing about an advent calendar as part of my own, but this is so good it’s worth it. Ciate make absolutely beautiful nail polishes and this calendar, exclusive to John Lewis, contains 24 of their best shades and effects hidden behind numbered doors. Each colour (apart from a full sized polish for Christmas Eve) is packaged in a mini bottle – just enough to enjoy each colour or effect without having the chance to get bored (I love a mini polish for this reason. See also: Mavala). Highlights here include several of the trailblazing Caviar and Sequin polishes that sold out at launch last year, a pleasingly festive holly-berry red and dense, molten metallics for the party season. It certainly wipes the floor with those supermarket versions containing plastic tat and dog chocolate.
