Red Lipstick
It is Christmas Eve. Personally, the idea of pushing my way into town for a panicked and sweaty last minute shop jostling fellow disorganised desperados is a vision of hell. I’d end up walking in helpless circles humming the Countdown theme as the chilling deadline of early closing looms ever nearer.
Of course we don’t all start having Christmas shopping panic dreams in July. My partner’s tradition is to ‘deliberately’ leave some shopping to do on Christmas Eve. He likes to finish it off in town, which he claims is not that busy (I hope to never find out) and round it off with chips and a pint.
Should you find yourself in the position of my partner and countless other cool customers, hopefully seeking one last perfect present, you could do worse than seek out and take home the perfect red lipstick. It doesn’t even have to be that difficult. There are many excellent examples to be found in any decent sized branch of Boots in the form of Chanel, Dior and Estee Lauder, or you could score bonus pints for going a little out of your way for one of the gorgeous sets by Lipstick Queen or Laura Mercier from Space NK or a department store.
In my view, red lipstick will always make a killer gift, sure, it can be an amorous gesture, but it also works as a vote of confidence for all the cherished friends and females in our lives. Wearing it makes me feel a bit braver and everyday life can feel a little more glamorous; I love to pass on that feeling.
