Fall is just around the corner, and after three months of lip balm, sun screen and a little eyeliner, I am ready for REAL makeup. Happily, this year offers more than just smoky eyes from which to choose.
In the quest to get back-to-fabulous with the least fuss, here is a round-up of fall’s top three eye makeup trends using just one basic product: Cream To Powder Eyeliner. For tools, you just need a Camouflage Brush and a Detail Brush. Just be sure to wipe your brushes on a damp Magic Mitt between colors to keep them clean and fresh.
Trend #1 Retro Pop – Cat-eye liner and strong lips are the hallmark of this sophisticated look. This is for all you “Mad Men” ladies out there. It goes perfectly with your pencil skirts and kitten heels.

- Start with a bare lid (after any concealer has been applied).
- Take the Detail Brush into the blackest shade from the Black Plus Cream To Powder Eyeliner. Start by tight-lining right in the upper lash line. Tilt your head back as you look in the mirror and really wiggle that inky color right into your lashes. Smooth the line so it is even.
- Picking up more color on the brush whenever you need to, extend the color out and up past the outer corner of your eye (wing it). Look in the mirror straight on to see if you like what you’ve got.
- If you want more drama, trace over the line a bit higher up the lid, making it thicker.
- You can also play with the wing itself, extending it out farther, or keeping it more subtle and in line with the edge of the eye. Try flipping up the outer edge up more for a flirtatious take.
- Classic reds like Carrie PureMoist Lipstick work well on lips, or for a modern twist, try a glossy coral like Melon PureGloss Lip Gloss.
Trend #2 Purple Passion – This traditional fall eye makeup color looks especially beautiful with this season’s rich army greens or that new camel coat you can’t wait to wear.
- Start with a tiny amount of Lemon Lid Primer to cancel out any redness on the lids and along lower lash line. Apply with the Camouflage Brush or your finger.
- Use your Camouflage Brush to apply the lightest shade from Plum Plus Cream To Powder to the lids from lash line to brow. Fade it out as you go up and then use your clean ring finger to blend most of the color off of the brow bone so there is just a hint there. When using Cream To Powders as eye shadow, you get a lush, moist, dewy look; but blend gently and carefully so you don’t blend it off.
- Next, apply the medium shade to the outer half of the lid holding the Camouflage Brush parallel to your eye.
- Finally, line upper and lower lash lines with the darkest shade, using the Detail Brush. Line almost all the way around, essentially all but the most inner corner. If you like, add a little bit of the lightest shade there.
Bronze Age- Love animal prints? Shearling? Need something to sexy up your chunky knits? Go bronze!
- Saturate the Camouflage Brush in the lightest shade of Black/Brown Plus Cream To Powder. Layer it thickly all over the lid, up to the crease.
- Line around the entire eye with the darkest shade, using the Detail Brush. That’s the two-second take. Want more drama? let’s proceed
- Use the Detail Brush and the darkest shade to extend the top liner into a thick cat-eye.
- With the Camouflage Brush, layer the middle shade on the outer half of the eyelid, up into the crease. Feel daring? Wing it up and out, above and past the crease. The outer border should not pass an imaginary line traced from the outer corner of the eye to the outer corner of the eyebrow.
- Keep pressing color in until you are satisfied with the intensity. If you need to blend, use your ring finger and pat along the edge of the line very gently.
- Wipe off your Detail Brush and go over the dark eyeliner with the medium shade, allowing the line to get thick and smudgy.
- Because we have applied the product so heavily, check for creasing in ten minutes, pat any away with your finger, and swipe a bit of PurePressed Base Mineral Foundation or Amazing Base Loose Mineral Powder over this to set it.
