Lauren Oakey looks back on the frosted lilac snogs of yore.
School discos when I was 13 were all about my silver body, black miniskirt, silver cropped jumper with Disco Sindy lurex hair thread and Boots 17 Twilight Teaser lipstick. We all wore it, and I won’t lie, we felt pretty badass.
It was bad news, Twilight Teaser. A silver and lilac frosted affair that made you look as if you were in the advanced stages of hypothermia. Boys were scared of it, yet strangely fascinated by its ability to make you look a bit dead. Saturdays in town were spent in Boots, kitting out anyone who hadn’t yet experienced the joy of feeling like an extra in Blade Runner.
Thankfully short lived, Twilight Teaser was soon replaced by the raspberry lips and powdered skin we loved on Clueless. We may have looked hideous beforehand, but we all looked hideous together. It was total fun, and that’s exactly what make-up should be.
