The winning foundation, as chosen by Sali
This is the sixth and final part of my series for Harvey Nichols, who asked me to judge the finest foundations sold in-store and online at harveynichols.com. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed testing the best in luxury bases across all categories, for every skin type, age and skin tone. But after due consideration, I decided there could only be one winner…
Armani Luminous Silk Foundation, £40
If I’m making up someone I‘ve never met, whose skin type and complexion tone I don’t yet know, whose plans or occasion are up in the air, but who is simply looking for a polished, clear, long lasting and flattering base, then I know I’ll be fine with a big bag of Luminous Silk. It is, in my view, among the best all rounders in all of beauty. It gives good, natural coverage, a healthy looking finish and crucially, does not discriminate in its shade range (I could not, in all consciousness, ever choose an ethnically exclusive foundation as my overall winner. Great foundation should be available to all). It blends like a dream with fingers, sponge or brush and offers a perfectly smooth base for any makeup thereafter. It’s also a comparatively good price for such a great product.
